Lunch Break Activity: Roy Lichtenstein At Tate Liverpool

A very exciting exhibition is coming to Liverpool this autumn and if you’re someone who loves to do something on their lunch break besides sitting at their desk and eating, this could well be one for you.

Between September 22nd 2017 and June 10th 2018, you can enjoy a wander around Tate Liverpool, exploring more than 20 different works by the late great Roy Lichtenstein, going from his interest in landscapes right through to his famous pop art paintings that were heavily influenced by advertising and comic strip imagery.

Not only that but the exhibition also comes with a three-screen installation, the artist’s only work with film, which was made after he spent two weeks at Universal Studios back in 1969.

To tide you over until then, you can watch a short video that artist Allen Jones made about Lichtenstein and the power of pop art. The two were actually close friends and Jones recounts what captivated him about Lichtenstein when he first encountered him while he was working as a young British artist in New York.

If you’re looking for something to do right now and don’t want to wait until autumn before you pay Tate Liverpool a visit, there’s also Tracey Emin and William Blake In Focus (on until September 3rd). And if you’re looking for a family friendly event, Space Disco is on until October 15th, where little ones can put on a spacesuit, build a shelter, dance about, explore the landscape and have an awful lot of fun!
