Liverpool Landmark Lyceum Building To House Big Name Restaurants

Those of you working out of Liverpool office space will no doubt always be on the lookout for new and interesting places to go for a work lunch. And now you’ll have even more options on the table, thanks to resurging interest in The Lyceum, a landmark historic building in the city that has been vacant for some time now.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the building is expected to be divided up between two or more tenants – with chicken chain Nando’s already reportedly expressing interest in the site.

The Lyceum itself was opened back in 1802 to house the first subscription library in England. It was also home to the Lyceum Gentleman’s Club for a number of years. In the 60s, it was threatened with demolition but later saved after a backlash from heritage campaigners.

Director of building owner Panther Securities John Doyle said: “If we get one household name to take part in the property we think there will be a boost not just in footfall but also in terms of attracting other traders to the building. Once we get one big name, the rest will follow pretty quickly. It’s getting the first one involved there.”

So, in the meantime, where can you eat lunch in Liverpool right now? There’s The London Carriage Works which has won multiple awards and would be perfect for a business lunch, or Salt House Tapas if you’re into small bites with big taste. Wines from some incredible vineyards in Spain are also available, as well as modern sherries and tipples all the way from South America.
